During the past decade, Sanya has been speeding up its industrial transformation and propelling high-quality economic development, which has helped its efforts to build an international tourist consumption center and a Hainan Free Trade Port scientific innovation hub.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress, Sanya has been implementing new ideas related to development and grasping new opportunities in FTP construction, striving to move from a single industrial structure and the city's excessive dependence on the tourism and real estate industries by cultivating its high-tech industries and modern service industries.
During the last decade, Sanya has been continuously introducing major tourism projects and promoting the construction of an international tourism consumption center. More than 20 of the world's top brand hotels, including InterContinental Sanya Resort and the Sanya Edition, have opened in Sanya.
The establishments of CDF Mall Sanya and the Atlantis Tourism Complex have brought high-end tourism consumption elements to the city, forming a high-density tourist and leisure resort area, as well as an international tourism consumption center led by high-end quality consumption.
New tourism formats and products have emerged intensively in Sanya. Wuzhizhou Island, a national 5A-level tourist scenic spot, Paddy Field National Park, a national 4A-level tourist scenic spot, and Haichang Fantasy Town have been built. In addition, Bohou village, Zhongliao village, and Tianya town have all become popular tourism sites in Sanya.
Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City focuses on the Nanfan breeding and deep sea technology industries to create a layout for major scientific and technological infrastructure and industrial platforms. Since the launch of the sci-tech city, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Ocean University of China, and eight other top Chinese universities, as well as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and 14 other scientific research institutes have set up branches here.
In three short years, 7,409 enterprises have registered in Yazhou Bay Sci-tech City, including 15 Fortune 500 companies (holding subsidiaries included), 131 national high-tech enterprises, and 81 foreign enterprises.
Sanya Central Business District (CBD) is led by the headquarters economy, financial services, modern commerce, and yacht industries. Bolstered by the cultural and leisure industry, the Sanya CBD administration is building a modern industrial system in central Sanya that shoulders the responsibilities of the city's urban renewal and industrial upgrading.
As of the end of 2021, about 4,853 enterprises had settled in the Sanya CBD, including 50 Fortune 500 companies and 56 Top 500 China Enterprises.
