Hainan Province ranked second among China's regions in terms of increasing its international shipping capacity. This was reported by China News Service, citing official data.

More than 400 transport and logistics companies with ships have been registered in the region since June 1, 2020, when the State Council of the People's Republic of China published the general development program for the Hainan Free Trade Port, which has boosted the island's shipping capacity by more than 10 million tons.

Yangpu Port on the northwest coast of Hainan continues to play a significant role in boosting international cargo traffic, the report noted. The province has recently registered some 240 tankers, container ships, dry cargo ships and other maritime transportation facilities.

"We will continue to simplify ship registration procedures and make the process more convenient and efficient," said Wang Jianmin, director of the production sector of the Yangpu Economic Development Zone's port sector. The authorities will also actively develop maritime logistics services at the same time, according to the official.

Yangpu is Hainan's most important deep-water port, ideally suited to handle super-large container ships. The port is expected to become a key regional transportation hub by 2025, with up to 5 million containers passing through it annually.
