A new car of Line 16 with a "matcha green" color belt and an "upgraded and extended version" was newly purchased, which was unveiled in Zhibei base of Shanghai Metro. So far, the scale of metro trains in Shanghai has officially entered the era of 6000 vehicles (festivals), and the total number of vehicles remains at the forefront of the country. The arrival of the 6000th new car will inject new vitality into the continuous energy increase of Line 16, further facilitate the travel of residents along the line, and help the rapid development of the new port area of the Free Trade Zone.

It is reported that the 6000th new car will "settle down" in Line 16, which can effectively increase energy for Line 16. The 6000th train carriage is longer and more spacious than the existing train carriage of Line 16. With the development of the new area near the port of the Free Trade Zone, the passenger flow in the port, Huinan, Hesha and other areas has increased significantly. The newly purchased 6-car train has a capacity of 2378 passengers, which will replace the current 3-car train one by one, effectively increasing energy.

In addition, the new vehicles of Line 16 adopt variable frequency air conditioners, which are more energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and the passenger experience will be more comfortable. The new vehicles of Line 16 are also equipped with vehicle ground wireless transmission, driving record, self diagnosis and other functions to help vehicle maintenance personnel remotely identify faults and trace causes, further improving the efficiency and accuracy of troubleshooting.  The signal system of the new car is equipped with a core processor with better performance. The wireless communication system adopts a dual antenna system, which makes the train control system more intelligent and safe.

It has been 27 years since Shanghai Metro was put into operation in 1993. In 2007, the number of metro trains in Shanghai exceeded 1000; In July 2018, the 5000th Shanghai Metro train was unveiled at the Beizhai Road base of Line 2; On May 28, 2020, the scale of metro trains in Shanghai officially entered the era of 6000. As the trains of Line 14, Line 15, Line 18 and other new lines will arrive in Shanghai one after another, it is expected that the number of metro trains in Shanghai will exceed 7000 around the end of this year.
