The city of Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, recently ranked among the top 10 Chinese cities for its key and core technology strength.
The results were released in the 2022 China Key and Core Technology Innovation and Development White Paper, presented last week at the 2022 Global Key and Core Technology Innovation Conference which was held in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The white paper fully evaluated the development of key and core technology in 34 major domestic cities that entered the top innovation capability evaluations over the past three years. It sorted out the four major types of key and core technology cities.
"From the perspective of the four dimensions of innovation factor input, innovation achievement output, innovation environment and innovation development vitality, Wuhan's innovation environment is outstanding," said the publisher of the white paper.
Wuhan is accelerating its development to be a nationally influential science and technology innovation center and a comprehensive national science center in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).
The city has boosted key and core technology breakthroughs in the fields of intelligent networked vehicles, photoelectricity chips and hydrogen energy, and built up invaluable experience in the construction of high-level R&D platforms and key technology research.
"It is worth noting that Wuhan still maintains a strong enterprising spirit," the report said. "In recent years, it has built basic platforms for interdisciplinary, large-scale collaboration and high-intensity collaborative innovation to promote cutting-edge technological innovation".
Last year, Wuhan began speeding up the construction of Wuhan Future City and the Optics Valley Laboratory in the OVC, planned and built the construction of major sci-tech infrastructure and established innovation centers, including the National Optoelectronics Innovation Center, to create a great environment for key and core technology innovation.
In addition, the city has released major scientific and technological projects focusing on optical communications, integrated circuits and the life science fields, as well as 271 digital economy applications scenarios.
Moreover, Optics Valley of China has introduced 10 policies to boost key and core technology innovation.
