On June 2, two college students from Taiwan completed the first pilot project of international cruise talent training in Xiamen, and successfully passed the theoretical and practical evaluation exams. After passing the examination and approval, they will obtain the relevant crew certificate issued by the mainland maritime department. This is another innovative practice of the Xiamen Free Trade Zone to explore and promote cross-strait integration and development, laying a good foundation for cross-strait cooperation in cultivating international shipping talents.

The first cross-strait international cruise talent joint training class was jointly organized by universities on both sides of the strait, under the guidance of the Management Committee of Xiamen Free Trade Zone and Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration. After completing the prescribed theoretical courses in Taiwanese universities through online means, Taiwanese college students can go to Xiamen universities for practical training, and after passing the evaluation examination of the mainland maritime department, they can obtain the corresponding qualification certificates.

Previously, the Management Committee of the Xiamen Free Trade Zone and the Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration conducted in-depth investigations on cruise companies, seafarer dispatch companies and maritime academies, actively communicated and coordinated with universities in Taiwan, and successfully promoted cross-strait universities to reach a consensus on cooperating to train international cruise talents. It also conducted discussions on a series of links including registration, information collection, training, examinations, and certificate issuance for Taiwanese college students who came to Xiamen to participate in the training, and formulated a detailed work plan, which effectively guaranteed the smooth development of the training.

It is worth mentioning that, in order to solve the problem of traveling between different places, this training explores the implementation of "online credit system theoretical training + offline practical training" to ensure that trainees complete the prescribed training content as required. "I personally like traveling very much, and I am very happy to be able to work on board. I heard that the teacher said that there is such a training, and I signed up for it immediately. The teacher explained it very carefully. I am very happy to have such a training opportunity." Taiwan Xu, a college student, said.

Jimei University is the only institution in mainland China that has the qualifications to carry out training for Taiwanese seafarers. Yan Changjian, deputy dean of the College of Continuing Education of Jimei University, said: "The training class closely combines cruise education and training, personnel training and industrial development. , provide various means such as employment and internships, cultivate multi-level, high-quality, international cruise talents, and inject new vitality into Xiamen's cruise industry."

Xiamen Port is one of the four pilot ports for cruise transportation approved by the Ministry of Transport. With the gradual recovery of the cruise market, the demand for talents will further increase. For a long time, the Xiamen Free Trade Zone has given full play to its location advantages, relying on the Taiwan training and education base jointly established with Jimei University, through the cross-strait crew training pilot, to enhance exchanges and cooperation in the shipping field, to continuously explore new ways of cross-strait integration and development, and to create new development services Pattern node city.
