According to the deepening cooperation strategic agreement, the two parties will deepen industrial cooperation and collaborative innovation based on the principle of complementary resources and advantages, and share the opening and innovation opportunities given by the Party Central Committee to Pudong New Area to build a leading area for socialist modern construction, as well as the functional layout of the Shanghai Oriental Hub project. The Pudong New Area will support China Eastern Airlines in its business landing and innovative development, provide local government services and production resources and other necessary guarantees, fully assist China Eastern Airlines in building an air transport super carrier, expand Pudong Airport’s international route resources, and encourage participation in air-rail, air-sea and other multimodal transport integration, support its in-depth docking with Pudong's advantageous industries, and build a good aviation industry development ecology.
China Eastern Airlines will give full play to the role of the national team and the main force of the central enterprises in Shanghai and the main base airlines, take root in Pudong to develop and grow; give play to the driving efficiency of the industrial chain, value chain, and supply chain, take the lead in formulating industry standards and regulations, and promote the digital transformation of aviation logistics; Cooperate with COMAC and Airport Group to build a high-quality development industry system throughout the life cycle around the air transportation industry from manufacturing, transportation to service guarantee.
At present, Shanghai is constructing the Oriental Hub project, and Pudong International Airport will be connected with the Shanghai-Tongtong Railway. In the future, it will form a large-scale comprehensive transportation integrating aviation, national railway, urban railway, urban rail transit and other transportation functions, as well as station city development. As a hub, the advantages of Pudong River, sea, land, air and railway multimodal transport are expected to be further highlighted.
Fang Zhaoya, Director of the Strategic Development Department of China Eastern Airlines, said that taking the opportunity of signing a strategic cooperation agreement between Pudong New Area and China Eastern Airlines, the next step will be to build a core shipping center around Pudong to promote business cooperation. "We will concentrate more passenger and freight business in Pudong, open up more domestic and international routes, and support Pudong in building an international hub."
Fang Zhaoya also revealed that the Eastern Hub integrates high-speed rail and aviation, of which about 50,000 square meters will be used as the front terminal. "China Eastern Airlines will actively cooperate with Shanghai and Pudong New Area to jointly build the front terminal building to ensure the seamless connection of our passengers' travel, more convenient transfer from railway to air transportation, and provide better travel services for passengers." He said.
