On the evening of June 3, a plane carrying nearly 110 tons of export cargo took off from Xiamen Gaoqi Airport and began a nearly 15-hour "cross-ocean journey". The Xiamen-Chicago cross-border e-commerce air freight line started smoothly.
The route is operated by Atlas Airlines of the United States. It is the first scheduled cargo route between Xiamen and Chicago, and it is also the third cross-border e-commerce air freight line opened by Xiamen Airport this year. The route is planned to fly twice a week, with a maximum business load of 115 tons. The main goods are cross-border e-commerce products, machine parts, auto parts, etc. It is expected to fly more than 100 flights in the next 12 months.
The cross-border e-commerce business has maintained a good growth rate in recent years. "Xiamen has successively issued policies favorable to the development of air cargo, creating a world-class business environment, and laying a good foundation for our company to grow bigger and stronger." Song Kunfeng, the person in charge of the Fujian region of Ouhua International Logistics Group, the charter flight carrier, said. Following the opening of the Xiamen-Mexico City route, the group once again launched charter flights in Xiamen. He believes that after Xiamen Xiang'an Airport is put into use in the future, Xiamen's status as an international transportation hub city will be further consolidated, and related businesses will have broad prospects.
In order to ensure the smooth opening of the route, Xiamen Airport Customs has optimized the supervision process, strengthened the application of technologies such as CT intelligent map review, implemented advance risk research and judgment of goods, and implemented convenient measures such as customs clearance by appointment. "On the premise of ensuring that the supervision is in place, the rapid customs clearance of imported and exported goods is guaranteed." Wang Liguo, chief of the cross-border e-commerce section of Xiamen Airport Customs, introduced.
Cross-border e-commerce has the unique advantages of low cost, high efficiency, and breaking through time and space constraints. It has become a new foreign trade format with fast development, great potential, and strong driving effect at Xiamen Airport Port. Yang Qibin, director of the Civil Aviation Department of the Municipal Transportation Bureau, said that last year, the city issued "Several Measures to Further Accelerate the High-quality Development of Cross-border Air Cargo", focusing on cultivating a number of regular routes with stable cargo aircraft and actively building an international air cargo hub. Figures show that as of now, Xiamen Airport has 27 routes carrying cross-border e-commerce products. The Xiamen-Mexico City flight made its maiden flight on New Year's Day this year. As of May 31, 42 flights have been carried out, with a cumulative cargo load of more than 4,000 tons.
